1. Buy the oil from a liquimoly dealer. Check the relevant section here in forum. 2. Even if sedate, i suggest 60 because of the unforgiving heat in chennai. Your alternator is dipped in the oil and uses the oil to keep cool. The best grade oil is the best blood for the bike. 3. No precautions to take.
Fair Statement. If my motor blows up. I'll make sure to do an oil change before I take it in . Seriously though, I respect and appreciate your warning. The motorex lubricant is still currently in the bike. So I'm good till the next interval change. I'll evaluate from there. Amsoil generally makes good products. From a scientific side.
The KTM 790 Adventure has 9300 mile / 15000 km or annual service intervals. At every service, change the oil and filter, and do a host of checks. KTM recommends you check and adjust the valve clearances of the 790 engine every 18600 miles or 30000 km. At the same time, change the spark plugs. Change the brake fluid every two years, and change
I keep seeing reports of the 790/890 engines still having repeated oil and water leaks, counter shaft seal leaks, gasket leaks, etc. My nearest KTM dealer is quite far away. What have people’s experience been with the 790 & 890’s…especially those who’ve owned the bikes for at least 20,000 miles.
Although I never saw an oil change interval in the press information handed out at the launch, KTM 790 Duke owners have a 10,000-km (6,000 mile) oil change interval. However, 790 Adventure owners headed offroad will likely want to keep a closer eye on that,
I recently gleaned some good info regarding the cam chain tensioner on our 790 Duke's and thought I would pass it along. A good friend owns Santa Barbara Motorsports where I bought my 790. He is both the owner and lead mechanic. Chris has been working on KTM's for the last 15 years and Jap bikes even longer.
It’s a fraction behind the KTM in terms of performance, with 99 hp at 9,000 rpm instead of 105 hp, and 60 lb.-ft. of torque at 8,000 rpm, down from 64 lb.-ft. for the 790 Duke.
Unfortunately, I was surprised to find that there was a significant amount of metal in my oil. This is the first time I’ve changed the oil in the bike and the second every change (5k miles).
On the 790 you can't change the date, only the mileage. The date rolls once the current interval is completed and you reset the service mileage interval. Perhaps set the mileage to the lowest (500) and then roll it for 500 miles. The logic may be miles or date, whichever comes first, and at that point the date rolls 12 months ahead.
